“The concept in DLMITD of associating her past lovers with colors immediately gripped me, but the more I listened to the song, the more I realized it was about those lovers not seeing her for her true colors.

I knew from the start that I wanted her lyrics to be written out in the design, almost as if it were a narrative on a page because the structure of the song sounds like three distinct chapters of a book. The three lovers, King, Jack, and Maybe, are emphasized throughout the background. I then used a photo I took of Erin back in 2018 at the Southern and layered the song title on top. I chose to have “dark” be yellow/orange, as it’s a color palette Erin wears on stage often. Plus, I knew I wanted to stray from green and red since those were colors past loves had mistakenly associated her with. Overall, I wanted her color to be showcased, and not the colors King, Jack, and Maybe saw her as. “


About the artist:

Ignited Creative is located in Richmond, Virginia, and provides photography and design services to the Virginia music industry, with an emphasis on smaller, independent musicians. Pulling behind the curtain, you'll find the operation is a freelancing one-woman show run by Maggie Graff. The name Ignited Creative is inspired by Coldplay’s song "Fix You" (lights will guide you home / and ignite your bones). Ultimately, it’s meant to instill similar feelings of "do what sets your soul on fire," encouraging you to follow the creative mission that's deep-seated in your bones. 

After starting online grad school at MICA last year in Business of Art and Design, Maggie’s business intentions are to elevate the Ignited Creative brand into a larger scale business.
