the wolf

by: jessica camilli

oil on canvas

“I thought a lot about what imagery to use for this piece as there is so much symbolism in ‘The Wolf'.’ I thought of different ways to include a wolf or lupine features before deciding instead to focus on the person singing the song. Because it is about them - and all of us who have danced with the wolf. I wanted to convey the complexity of the emotion that is felt when we fall for someone who is talented at working charm. There is a palpable annoyance at a pattern we have witnessed over and over, some shame towards ourselves, for falling for it, and even a small sense of mischief - as we know it’s wrong but still hold on to some desire to dance again.”
