Yellow House Blues

by: Emily Herr

“We store memories in people and places. I feel like I’ve lived in this house, and maybe each house in Richmond where I’ve made a home with friends is a room inside of it. This painting is of Erin’s yellow house, painted from inside the yellow house where I’m currently cooped up with some of the best people I’ve ever known, waiting for the first fireflies of summer.”

About the artist:

My work is very large, or very small. Everything that isn’t a mural painted on-site is a small gouache study (usually) painted en plein air. These small paintings from and of life inform my approach to mural work that is larger than life. I’m available for commission to paint a place that is important to you - on the wall of your living room, or from a photo of your honeymoon.

I was born in Richmond, VA, and I’ll never leave.
